St. Louis County, Missouri
Proclamation

Whereas, Washington University has commenced the celebration of its Sesquicentennial, which will begin on September 14, 2003 and will culminate with Commencement on May 21, 2004; and

Whereas, St. Louis County has been fortunate in having the cooperation and services of Washington University for many years in various fields of study; and

Whereas, Washington University moved to its present location in St. Louis County in the year 1905, under the leadership of Robert. S. Brookings and his associates; and

Whereas, Washington University, through its teaching and research faculty, and the graduates of its academic programs and professional schools, has actively participated in the growth and development of St. Louis County; and

Whereas, these men and women have contributed so generously in the community affairs of St. Louis county and its municipalities by serving as elected and administrative officials and on advisory boards in various fields; and

Whereas, Washington University has an identity with St. Louis County in the spirit of civic service and accomplishment; and

Whereas, the St. Louis County Executive, being the elected representative of the people of St. Louis County, is cognizant of the benefits received from this University, and it is fitting that evidence of St. Louis County's appreciation be given to Washington University on the occasion of its Sesquicentennial:

Now, therefore, I, Buzz Westfall, County Executive, St. Louis County, Missouri, do hereby proclaim Sunday, September 14, 2003, as

Washington University Sesquicentennial Day

in St. Louis County.
